Madeleine L’Engle quotes Cardinal Suhard in Walking on Water:
“To be a witness does not consist in engaging in propaganda, nor even in stirring people up, but in being a living mystery. It means to live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.” (26)
WOW. Yes. Absolutely. xox
Have you read this? It’s one of my absolute favorite books. You’d eat it up and chew on it for days – I think. It’s about the creative life, art, and reflections on life.
I love Madeleine L’Engle and Walking on Water is one of my favorite books!
Mine too – If it weren’t for Walking on Water, I don’t think I’d be writing anymore. It’s soul-satisfying.
What does it mean to ” live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.”?
I think it means that we, ourselves – are supposed to be the witness. That God works in our lives and does things that don’t make sense to the person who doesn’t have God in his or her life. We are to let God in to every area and then shine, let his love and goodness shine through us. What do you think it means?
